Weekly lunch subscriptions Design concept

Zad

An Arabic weekly-lunch service linking dishes and ingredients to delivery windows and daily preferences.

We designed Zad as a fictional subscription kitchen in Sabah Al Salem preparing lunches for customers in Mishref, Bayan and Salmiya. The starting point was the customer’s week rather than a long package page: Monday’s dish, one desired change and a delivery time. Food photographs, day plans, ingredient notes and delivery form a distinct Arabic identity without turning the experience into a generic nutrition dashboard.

Project brief

A fictional weekly-lunch kitchen with daily dishes, ingredients, amendments and delivery instructions.

Design scope

  • Arabic identity and independent food photography
  • Weekly menu and meal selection
  • Day planner, notes and subscription summary

The project challenge

Customers need to know each day’s contents and how to change one dish without canceling the week. Sauce or ingredient notes can become confused with office access instructions, while per-meal prices hide the weekly and delivery total. The study needed a reviewable menu, explicit change limits and separate dish and location notes, without treatment suitability claims or health promises.

The solution we designed

The main interface uses real dish photographs and five day cards with names, key ingredients and a change action. The weekly planner expands ingredient notes, replacements, delivery windows and the amendment deadline. A sidebar summarizes meal count, food value, delivery and total. Week-wide access instructions remain separate from notes belonging to an individual dish.

The experience

Joud Al Harbi prepares office lunches in Bayan for 19–23 October: roast chicken with citrus grains, falafel salad, lemon fish, sesame tofu, and lentils with vegetables. Each day exposes its ingredients, and Thursday can be changed before the prior Friday deadline. Five meals at 4.500 KD total 22.500, with 2.000 weekly delivery making 24.500. Joud asks for Monday’s sauce separately and reception delivery between 11:30 and one.

What it could do

01

A dish for each day

Photographs, ingredients and notes remain attached to the correct day when choices change.

02

Understandable changes

A deadline and replacement action let the customer change one dish without rebuilding the week.

03

Clear weekly value

Meal count, unit amount and delivery produce one reviewable subscription total.

04

Delivery instructions

Access details and time window stay separate from individual ingredient notes.

A typical journey

  1. Choose a week

Read the five days and dishes before selecting the lunch plan.

  2. Review ingredients

Open each day, add a note or choose a replacement within the stated deadline.

  3. Set delivery

Review area, window, access instructions, food value and final amount.

  4. Save and return

Keep the week’s choices and notes visible without changing earlier daily information.

Design direction

Deep green, pale olive, warm paper and natural food photography support an editorial Arabic Zad wordmark. The kitchen is visually distinct from the red grocery store. Images share space with ingredients and notes rather than swallowing the planner. Written selection and saved states, readable times, prices and change limits make a practical weekly service.
